Queenstown has some delightful walks and nearby are some world renowned overnight hikes, with accommodation in mountain huts and experienced guides to inform you about the flora and fauna. When you leave the lodge for your hike we'll take care of your luggage and you'll know you are returning to a hot bath, a massage and a well earned dinner.
Perhaps the most famous of the South Island walks, this track was originally made by Maori as a route through to
Milford_Sound. Three nights are spent on the track and a fourth at Milford Sound. This is the way to encounter Fiordland at its most spectacular: deep lakes; silent fiords; luxuriant forest and sheer canyons carved out of imposing granite define this landscape. And, of course, the satisfaction of climbing MacKinnon Pass.
The Routeburn Track passes through two national parks, Fiordland and Mount Aspiring, and is part of Te Wahipounamu, South West New Zealand World Heritage Area. The area is a haven for native birdlife. The walk involves three day's walking and two nights on the track so is shorter than the Milford Track. Alternatively there is a one-day walk from Queenstown to Routeburn Flats Hut and back with an optional hike up to the falls.
There is a bit of everything in this great walk which ends at the beach, where you'll visit a fur seal colony, and includes a scenic flight to Milford Sound and a jet boat ride on the Hollyford River and across Lake McKerrow. The walk takes three days (two nights on the track)
Within the vicinity of the lodge there is a lovely walk along the lake front and, when stock movements permit, it is possible to walk from the lodge to Remarkables, where a waterfall provides the lodge's water. In and around Queenstown there are various options; some, such as Queenstown Hill Walk, start from the town centre, others are a short drive away.
Escape into the wilderness by helicopter and hike along dramatic ridges or through green valleys or even across a glacier. A knowledgeable guide to answer your questions and find a memorable spot to enjoy a picnic lunch and of course to summon the helicopter when you are ready to return to the lodge.
